Daniel Puyol Santos

Daniel is an Associate Professor and Researcher at Rey Juan Carlos University, Madrid, where he leads a research line on the use of purple phototrophic bacteria for resource recovery from organic waste and wastewater.
He has been working in Environmental Biotechnology for around 20 years, focusing on anaerobic bioremediation of wastewater and resource recovery from organic waste sources.
He worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Arizona, USA, for two years and at the Advanced Water Management Centre of the University of Queensland, Australia, for one year. He got a Fulbright Postdoctoral grant, a MINECO Postdoctoral grant and a Ramon y Cajal contract.
Daniel Puyol is the Chair of COST Action CA21146 – Fundamentals and applications of purple bacteria biotechnology for resource recovery from waste (PURPLEGAIN), involving around 300 scientists in the project and related activities. He is also principal investigator of several European and national projects with focus on environmental and sustainable applications of purple phototrophic bacteria
